ideas

From the comments in yesterday’s post about giving salad another chance, it looks like not everyone in the vegan community is anti-salad, which is cool, and for the rest of you, what are you waiting for? An idea?  OK, here’s one: here’s why I started eating salad again.  By the quart:

Pro tip: sometimes I’ll throw some cooked food in the salad, like beans or roasted red peppers or grilled eggplant. In my mind, it still counts as salad, but when I pour chilli on top I figure that’s different (but what a hearty dressing!)

This is also another reason I’m a big fan of the whole pre-washing vegetables idea – these things can take a whole head of lettuce, so I’ll prep 2 or 3 at a time and keep the rest in bins so I can spend my time eating the salad instead of making it – like I said, it takes a while to put one of these away!

I got hit with some ideas that wouldn’t leave my head last night: why is it that every time I think I’m talking about a reason people quit veganism that sounds totally made up to me (they’re based on fact, I promise, they just sound absurd) someone tells me they know someone who did exactly that? Are we choosing to miss out on real problems?

Really important: in the comments, let me know the strangest, hardest to explain reason that someone you know quit being vegan. Let’s see how much of a “freak occurrence” these things actually are and figure out if there’s something we’re doing wrong!

Maybe the next great vegan book should be called Staying Vegan

January 5, 2009

Erik Marcus has a new book out! It’s called The Ultimate Vegan Guide: Compassionate Living Without Sacrifice, and as far as I know It’s only available on amazon.com. I haven’t read it yet, but it looks to be a great book on how to go vegan. I don’t if we’ll ever see a book that’s [...]
