Striking at the Roots: A Practical Guide to Animal Activism

Mark Hawthorne’s Striking at the Roots: A Practical Guide to Animal Activism might just be the most important book you can read to help animals this year.

If you don’t finish it without at least 5 new ideas, no matter how long you’ve been doing outreach, then you’re illiterate. End of story. Mark’s assembled a massive overview of how you can get active, and it’s backed up with advice from people who’ve been working at increasing public awareness for a long long time.

I read most of this book on the subway, and I didn’t find a chapter that didn’t make me want to hit the emergency stop button, dash out of the train and get to work (OK, somehow I resisted the urge, but still.) It’s an inspiring book, and you owe it to yourself and the animals to give it a look.
