Can’t be vegan at dinner? What about lunch?

October 28, 2010

Since I shot this yesterday, there’ve already been some examples in other comments of “can’t because of X” that wouldn’t work with this strategy, but hey – what about the rest of that time?

This is our agreement in my home. My husband’s work conditions would make it very expensive and challenging for him to be vegan for the two weeks while he is away at work. In our house, there are no animal products, so when he’s home for two weeks, he eats completely vegan. Occasionally if we go out, he’ll eat something with meat, but I’ve been telling him that he’ll have to explain to our daughter what she sees when he eats animal products in front of her. Also, he’ll have to read her That’s Why We Don’t Eat Animals that night and explain why he thinks it’s okay.

Realistically, he could talk to his employers and the kitchen staff at the camps where he works and figure something out, but he is not comfortable with that yet, and I’m just glad that he has handled me kicking animal products out of our house completely so well.

Erin, I’m pretty sure it was your comment earlier that inspired this video, so thanks and sorry I didn’t give you a shout out by name! Things get a little fuzzy at the end of the week with the current schedule 🙂

Well Jason, how old is your little one now? I think you have a great excuse to be fuzzy!
